Bumpkins! Pumpkins!

First year my dad planted pumpkins and we had  believe! YAY. Beats going and buying any.

Those Rolling Stones.. just keep on rollin'

I haven't been on in a long while because I became seriously ill in the middle of the summer. Thanks to myself for asking my new doctor for a physical, found out I had low kidney function. That led to seeing a specialist, that led to an ultrasound, let to stones. :( I have had so much blood drawn, and blood pressure, temperature taken, 2 surgeries, and one more coming up on the morning of Halloween, witch I find humorous, considering I have told people that was a goal (by that holiday) I have my up days, and not so good days, but I know my limits. Definitely not fun to go back to work since I am on my feet all the time. The first two surgeries I took longer time to return, so it gave me tons of time to think and get stuff done (when I could). I had to miss my Tuesday Market Fair showing my art. My folks sat in for me. That was before I knew about what I had too. I love Halloween. I may be "outta of it" that day, but can enjoy the week of it. :)  All I can do is make jokes of the bad. I have nurses and doctors laughing. Gotta keep the humour and not always be glum. Jokes like. " I want Mick, Keith..... out of my body!" Ready to be "Stone Free." I cannot IMAGINE how people have it worse than what I am dealing with. It seems to run in the family and they had it REAL BAD. My doctor is doing what is best and finding ways I don't have to deal with bad pain. It just plain sucks. Now if only my ears get back to normal. I like to think it's the weather messing with them. LOL

I'll try and post some pics.

HGMC is a band/club I have been a part of for some years now.My friend, Cherie Gates is the singer and her husband is also part of the band. The songs are about road life, and experiences. If you enjoy motorcycles, or I would just recommend giving them a listen. :) They have been at this project for years now and have worked very hard to get where they are. Thank you. Please Share.

CDs are available and also for digital. and a few songs to listen to.HGMC MUSIC

Art Ahead

So much going on this past week. I first was asked from a fellow artist, for an interview. 2nd, another artist in town asked if I would like to be an "Artist of the Week" for Tuesday Market. Art is looking upwards. :)

When I get through the interview questions, I will post here and a couple other places. I will provide links. She will be posting the interview in her blog in German AND English. I will soon post her website for you all to enjoy. :)

Tuesday Market date is in late July. More to come as it approaches.

One of those days...

I went to check up on my Photographer/FB friend last night and I didn't realize he passed away?? I haven't communicated with him a long while. I met him on ArtWanted and he was so kind to send me a huge list of concert photos he had taken and allowed me to use them as references. First one I had drawn was Joey Ramone. I didn't know George well, but I want to to thank him for the support and kind words about my artwork and being so generous. I have all the emails and the list he had sent me. I am sad.  Thank you George. RIP. Heidi

Strange how you don't know someone well and it gets to you. I have many tears before going to bed.

Early last evening I was looking out the window and spotted something tiny and grey in the grass and I went outside and it was a itty bitty bushtit. Poor thing, do not know what was wrong, but it wasn't moving much and it looks like it is near the end. It moved a bit along the grass with its wings out a little, but not much. My dad went out and touched its tail feathers and it didn't move at all, but its eyes were barely open. He put seed in front of it, nothing. Maybe it is stunned? or just near the end of its cycle. Mom has a point of "letting nature takes it's course." but dad and I may try something. At least give it comfort. Many people will think.
" It's just a bird." but I love nature. Don't want things suffer.

I ended up putting it in a cardboard box with some comfort material. It was breathing shallow and its eyes were barely open and it was droopy. I put in under a saw horse so if it rained like it did yesterday (hard at times) it wouldn't get wet. In a half hour I went back out and it wasn't breathing. :(  Gave it a burial in our backyard today. Giving nature back. Before that, I noticed a bunch of bushtits flying in and made a reference to." family and friends coming for a send off."

I believe in the many years we have been at our house I have never seen any type of injured or experienced anything like this. Tiz sad. Bye Bye Birdie.

Macaws and Other Parrots

Finishing up some misc. drawing from last year. I've never attempted a parrot before and began a Macaw. Weirdly, when I was younger I never cared too much for birds as pets, just all that flapping and yapping. I would always hear birds yapping in the background on a telephone call or answering machine. Don't get me wrong, they were pretty to look at, but made me cringe. Funny how you change your outlook as you get older. I see my friend's birds differently, but I can't socialize with the birds either, she has all that. :)

Macaws are the largest of parrots. There are 16 different species of Macaws. Size range from a little over 3 ft to one foot. They are very social and intelligent. They are found in rain forests. Central and South America.

An old friend, my best friend from high school passed away a couple of weeks ago from cancer. She was diagnosed quick and the cancer took her too soon. She was 41.  Here is a drawing I did of her.

IDEAS

Ideas. So many to count. We daydream ideas while going through our days to laying bed at night. I have some long term ideas, One being, Books. I have ideas for storybooks and coffee table books. My dad is already on his 3rd book. The first two were Westerns, and the newer one is a little different. My dad is an artist in his own right as well. He was able to make a living at architecture. He figured one of us kids would adopt the art lifestyle, which has been, me. May not be making a living, but I guess I got my talent from his side. My mom, on the other hand, is more of a quilter.  She's helped me in making my own wall hanging quilts, but I don't do the major stitching. She never thinks she is good enough as some she sees at quilt shows, but dad and I always tell her "she is"!

...anys back to ideas. Someone recently asked me if I ever had drawn a "buffalo." Which, I responded, No, I haven't, but I can? You think from my early childhood, buffalo would of been a typical animal for me to draw, but I haven't. I've drawn porpoises, bears, wildcats, small animals, deer, mtn sheep, but growing up in Alaska and Wyoming, no buffalo came to paper, and they roam in the roads at Yellowstone! So, last night, I began a buffalo. When I get more into the drawing, I'll post it. Unusual body proportions so I'll have to use my 11x14.

I also have an idea for a Moose. Now, yes, Moose all over Alaska. LOL Need to draw a MOOSE. No, not Marty Moose. ;)

Peace to the Peoples.. until then.

Questions about my Art

1. What is your art style?

My "style" is mainly black and white, highly detailed, with dashes of color. Fans of my work say they enjoy how I express myself through my artwork and how lifelike it is, as well as, the personality of my subjects.

2. What kind of pencils, tools, paper, do you use?

I work with Derwent pencils in variety of shades. I sometimes have use only one pencil creating something. I also love watercolor pencils, woodless pencils, and recently a nice Dick Blick pencil set I received as a gift. Blender tools are a must as is eraser pencils. I also use to work with some pastel and sometimes use acrylic paint. I either use Bristol Smooth Paper, or Bristol Vellum Paper.

3. What size do you work most in?

I mostly work in sizes that are suitable for matting and framing. Mostly 9x12-11x14. I will tell a client that I prefer at least a 9x12 for 2 subjects.

4. Do you draw any other subjects than birds and nature?

Yes, I do. Years ago, I began to draw people, including celebrities, pets. I still do. Most commissions are of family members, as well as fur children. I have quite an eclectic variety and have been told that. :) I'll even draw a lizard. (if asked. that would be a 1st)

Friend's Kitties

Having a little drawing fun of a friend's fur kids. I like the composition of the picture I worked from. Such cuties. Thank You Joan for all your support of my art. It means a lot. Every little bit helps.:)

1st Drawing of 2014

I guess I can say this is the official 1st drawing of the new year, but I began before the new year. :) This is a 9x12 in pencils.

This Raven was spotted either early last year or the year before. I was with a friend, earlier, at a winery out of town and on the way back, we stopped at our local mall and since we had our cameras, this bird was too cool to ignore. Usually we see tons of gulls and Brewer Blackbirds picking up scraps.
